We didn't realise just how rare the Choughs were until we saw them in Chester zoo. There also seems to be a resurgence of birds of prey such as buzzards and peregrines that can often be seen at dawn or dusk.

The RSPB Centre on Southstack is a quick walk from the cottage, although not an obvious route across the moor.

Choughs love turf

Why does Anglesey and South Stack RSPB in particular boast both choughs and puffins? The answer is that the Island contains both closely cropped turf on the cliff tops that is the Choughs feeding ground and soft sandy earth that allows the Puffins to make their nesting burrows.
