The Cottage

Your children will love the cottage and the mountain. We have lost count of the number of people who told us their children cried when they left. The mountain is a haven for wildlife and animals. There are horses and usually foals near to the cottage, as well as chickens nearby. There are many rare birds such as stonechat, chough and peregrine falcons and there are also badgers nearby.

Built before 1851

The cottage is a genuine stone built cottage over a hundred and fifty years old; it still retains much of its unique character but has all modern conveniences. The cottage was built by quarry workers and the original stone fireplace adds atmosphere to the living room.

The Living Room

The living room has oak beams and a feature inglenook stone fireplace with a traditional style inset wood burner and black slate hearth. As the cottage is actually two cottages combined it has a spacious feel and windows on both sides of the living room give it an open aspect with views right over to Snowdonia.
The living area consists of cosy living room with wood burner set in stone fireplace, seating, TV and DVD player. You will find a collection of DVDs books and games on the book shelves.

The Kitchen

The kitchen is modern and newly fitted but still retains the cottage ambience. The kitchen table can be extended to seat eight people. The kitchen is fitted with all modern equipment with gas cooker, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, radio, tape, CD player and microwave, dishwasher and fridge freezer. Some Tea towels are provided. The kitchen has all modern appliances but still retains the country cottage ambience. It has enough cutlery and pots and pans for six and plenty of storage space.

The floor is laid with country style tiles and the front door with a peacock stained glass motif leads directly into the kitchen. It has oak beams throughout and two steps down into the living room.

The Bedrooms and Bathroom

There are three bedrooms, a large double room with views of the bay from one side and the island from the other, and two other bedrooms with two single beds in each. They both have lovely views. An open staircase leads to the first small bedroom to the left of the top landing. This has two single beds and a large fitted wardrobe. Opposite is the main bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and drawers.

The third bedroom is located down the passage which runs alongside the main bedroom, turn right and the passage slopes slightly with a small step down. This is furnished with two full size beds and fitted wardrobe.

Duvets, pillows and linen are provided in all bedrooms.

The bathroom has modern white fittings and is equipped with a modern walk in family shower unit.

We buy new things for the cottage every year so please let us know if there are things that you missed or if there is anything that would improve your stay.

Favourite Beaches and Outings

Let us know which your favourite beaches are and what you liked about them. Messing about in the rock pools swimming in the sea, kayaking or sailing or just running with the dog in the surf.

We like to go to Church Bay and Sandy Beach but have yet to eat in the famous lobster pot restaurant. We like the Ulchedre Arts centre and often happen to be passing it at lunchtime. We go to the country park and walk the coast path pretty much every day when we are in the cottage. If it is summer we get ice cream, don't forget to count the tiles! I love to walk over the mountain to North Stack which is simply the most magical place in the summer. Here you can sit on the cliff edge of what must be the most westerly point of Wales and watch the gulls and seals and the Ferry in its way to Ireland.

We are told the we Windmill Melin Llynnon Mill is a good place to visit with children please let us know the details if you make it.

The cottage is a great place for peace and quiet and meditation. The mountain is made of solid white quartz and casts its quiet charm over everyone on the mountain.

If you are looking for more to do there is ten pin bowling, cinemas and theatre at the conference centre in Llandudno. There is also the Empire Cinema in Holyhead.

Scuba Diving to Surfing

The Island is perfect for activity sports of all types with rock climbing and canyoning nearby. So let us know what you have been up to. So far we have had people sailing and rock climbing but as far as we know on one who has been surfing kayaking, canyoning or scuba diving.

Dog Walking at the Cottage

There is our dog to the right so you can see we welcome dogs to the cottage. There are walks in four directions straight from the cottage so you have no reason to ever get into your car if you don't want to.

You can walk straight up the mountain if you want to. It is a steep rocky walk perfect for dogs. There are no sheep or fences you pass through the roman fort ruins and continue straight to the top. From the trig point at the top of the mountain the view is astounding. There is an engraving with all the peaks you can see from there stretching from the mainland of Wales up to Snowdonia and out to sea the mountains of Morn, yes you really can see Ireland on a clear day. If the weather is fine drop down o North Stack or to the coast path and country park to complete your walk.

Another favourite of mine is to follow the contours around the mountain going South to RSPB centre and South Stack lighthouse. This is particularly useful if you want a less strenuous walk suitable for young or old. Again dogs can run free off the lead although there are horses in a nearby field.
